CLINTiRTG

Our mission

The mission of the CLINTiRTG is to ensure a profound academic education and to provide qualifications that go beyond the usual doctoral training. Foremost, CLINTiRTG must enable each young researcher to work independently on her/his scientific projects at the frontiers of science. Naturally, skills that are necessary for executing individual projects will be acquired from the supervisor and her/his group.

Because all projects are highly collaborative in nature, the young researchers will have to develop the ability to work beyond the boundaries of their own subfield. To assist with this challenge, CLINTiRTG aims to draw from the interdisciplinary nature of the CRC and will train the young researchers as early as possible to communicate across disciplines and to gain the capacity to organise collaborative research.
Furthermore, many young researchers will be confronted with important career decisions, e.g. whether to stay in academia or to move to industry. The goal of CLINTiRTG is to help them to make informed decisions about their future career and to act accordingly. To this aim, CLINTiRTG will provide a multidimensional training programme tailored to the specific requirements of trainees while systematically  promoting excellence.

Main aspects and offers

This will be achieved by focussing on the following four axes of development:

  • Academic skills by offering comprehensive training based on the research projects and an individual programme of lectures and laboratory exchange.
  • Leadership and organisational skills by exercising decisions making and taking responsibility through self-administration and activities promoting executive roles.
  • Entrepreneurial skills by developing strong competences in project, and IP management; while offering experiences that have an applied component.
  • Social and communication skills by preparing researchers to work in highly international and diverse environments through a soft skills programme.

The realisation of this versatile training will be balanced against the research activities, with careful control of the requirements, time commitment and workload.
